The twin-block is a functional appliance created by a Scottish dentist, Dr. William Clark, to treat class II malocclusions. The twin-block is developed on an aesthetic basis in order to be more comfortable and acceptable by patients than any other previous functional appliance. In this study a sample of 25 female and male patients with class II, division 1, was studied. They were all treated with twin·block appliance. Good clinical results were achieved in patients that were still in an active growing phase, with a good potential skeletal growth and dental eruption. The best therapeutic results were found in patients with maxillary prognathia and mandibular hipoplasia. The best effects were obtained in the mandible with an increased effective mandibular lengh. The dentoalveolar effect was a compensation of the malocclusion with a lingual version of the upper incisors and labial version of the lower incisors.
