La capilla de música de la catedral de Ávila: su influencia en Victoria

    Tomás Luis de Victoria realizó la mayor parte de su formación musical en seno de la capilla de música de la catedral de Ávila. Por ello, en este artículo se analiza y describe el funcionamiento dela capilla musical abulense, comenzando por el marco jurídico del que fue dotada a través de estatutos y acuerdos capitulares, y completándose con estudio de otras fuentes como las actas capitulares, los libros de cuentas y los de fábrica. miembros que componían la capilla son también descritos: maestros de capilla, cantores, mozos de coro, seises, ministriles, organistas, haciéndose especial hincapié en que fueron compañeros y contemporáneos del joven Victoria durante sus años de estancia en la catedral abulense. El artículo termina con la descripción de los géneros musicales y del repertorio que se interpretaba en la catedral de Ávila en estos años centrales del siglo XVI, así como de los libros de canto de órgano utilizados por la capilla. Los lugares donde hacía la música o los momentos en los que la capilla musical intervenía en celebraciones tanto dentro como fuera dela catedral, también son especificados.

    Tomás Luis de Victoria carried out most of his musical studies in the music chapel of Avila cathedral. That is the reason why we will analyze and describe its running in this article, starting with the legal framework it acquired by statutes and chapter minutes, and finishing with the study of other sources such as chapter and accounts books. Members of the music chapel are also mentioned: chapel mas ters, singers, succentors, choir boys, seises, minstrels, and organists, paying special attention to the colleagues of Tomás Luis de Victoria who were at the cathedral at the time he spent in Ávila. The article concludes with the description of the musical genres and the repertoire played at the cathedral in the mid-16th century, as well as the description of the polyphonic books used by the chapel. The spaces where music was performed or the times when the music chapel took part in liturgical celebrations, whether inside or outside the cathedral, are also specified.
