  • Resumen
    • During the course of a recent restoration programme, following the removal of a coat of plaster in one of the rooms of the Casa dei Battuti at Oderzo, some frescoes came to light representing two pairs of saint and their date of execution. On the basis of stylistic comparisons, it is likely that they were painted in 1472 by Giovanni di Francia, a fresco painter active in the region of Treviso at that time. After studying the stylistic context, research has been done to identify a "Madonna and Child" recorded in 1959. After examining inventories and archival documents belonging to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, it has been possible to demonstrate the provenance from the Casa dei Battuti of the detached fresco of the "Madonna and Child enthroned", today in Boston, and to partially reconstruct the room frescoes by Giovanni di Francia, or his workshop, dating from the time when the artist was living at Conegliano. It would appear that the Ordezo frescoes were the last undertaking of the artist before his death.
