La novela Agar (1955), de Albert Memmi, que gira en torno a una joven pareja compuesta por un judío tunecino y su esposa, María, una francesa católica, presenta distintas interpretaciones de la figura del «extranjero». Sea por elección o por fuerza mayor, en algún momento de la trama los protagonistas son «inmigrantes» que intentan perpetuar su amor pese a toda clase de vicisitudes. Sin embargo, unos conflictos ineludibles los llevan a hundirse en la más profunda soledad. En este trabajo nos proponemos demostrar cómo la comunicación se erige en el problema central de la obra y constituye la pieza que falta para que se produzca una feliz convivencia.

Agar (1955) of Albert Memmi put on stage a young couple : a Tunisian Jewish and his wife, Marie, a catholic Frenchwoman. This novel illustrates different variations of the figure of «abroad». «Selected» statute o «undergone», at some point, the protagonists are «immigrants» and they will try to sustain their love despite a lot of differences. However, it is carried out towards inescapable conflicts leading them to be inserted in the deepest of the loneliness. We will seek to show how the communication is in the center of the problems of the book and constitutes the missing part for a happy cohabitation.
