  • Resumen
    • Quetelet is internationally recognized as one of the most influential figures in Europe during the 19th century in relation to the Statistical Science. Both his personal research to this discipline, and his idea of organizing international meetings to combine criteria and efforts on the organization of statistical works in different countries, have made that his figure is very relevant to historical studies about Statistics. On the occasion of the commemoration of the International Year of the Statistics (Statistics2013), we want to insist on the object of this celebration for the recognition of the figure of Adolphe Quetelet in the development and progress of the Statistics in terms of organization of statistical works in different countries, through the biennial meetings of scholars of the subject (first international congresses of Statistics, creation of the ISI (International Statistical Institute). In Spain, as in other countries, the influence of Quetelet will do that as it is created in 1856, the General Commission of Statistics of the Kingdom, which will be the first Spanish official organism of Statistics.
