This paper discusses the situation and perspectives of official statistics after the year 2013, designated The International Year of Statistics (Statistics2013).
The main thesis is that the current methods used by statistical offices are unsustainable in the medium term, and changes must occur to succeed. Two new paradigms to produce statistics are presented. One is the industrialized and integrated production process model replacing the traditional stovepipe model. The other is the integration of survey data with administrative sources and big data. Globalization of statistics and attention to quality are also discussed.
