  • Resumen
    • This paper deals with the decoration of the De laudibus Johannis Baptistae from the Biblioteca comunale Ariostea in Ferrara (Cl. II, 147A), composed by eleven pen watercolored drawings carried out in a quick sketchy manner. The manuscript is signed by the scribe, Iacobo de Montic(ulo?) from Forlì, and dated 1458. Michele Savonarola, the author, composed the text in 1457 dedicating it to Avanzo de Rodolfi, a knight of the Hospitaller order. At that time Avanzo was the rector of the commandry of the Most Holy Trinity (Santissima Trinità) also called of Saint John of the Hospitallers. The author of the small and precious codex decoration is clearly an artist from the Ferrarese school, updated on the most recent Ferrarese visual culture as the Bible of Borso dEste. His drawings style is unquiet, nervous and in many ways it reflects Cosimo Turas manner. All this locates our master in Taddeo Crivellis strict circle.
