Resumen de La transformation du charisme et le charisme de fonction

Max Weber

  • This article is an extract of Sociology of Domina- tion , which used to be the chapter 9 of Max Weber's posthumous book, Wirtschaft und Gesell- schaft , before the German critical edition of its work. Drafted in 1913, when Weber introduces the notion of charisma in political sociology, it won- ders about the conditions allowing anchoring in everyday life charisma and the domination it esta- blishes. By what dynamics can charisma, formerly a revolutionary and strictly personal relationship, become a fundamental part of some institutions? The text illustrates Weber's notion of the charisma of function, which had been previously neglected in France. Focusing especially on the “ succession by election ” , this extract also allows situating the Weberian thought in the history of western demo- cracy, a first inventory of which Weber's historical sociology undertakes through a methodology based on ideal-types.
