    El trasplante cardiaco se ha convertido en los últimos 30 años en la técnica de elección para el tratamiento de la insuficiencia cardiaca en fases avanzadas. Debe hacerse una selección cuidadosa de los pacientes candidatos quienes, además de la indicación médica, deben tener unas características sociales y psicológicas que les permitan enfrentarse a todo el procedimiento y al seguimiento posterior. Es muy importante que los pacientes, con el tratamiento óptimo establecido, sean remitidos a centros especializados. Las principales Sociedades Científicas han publicado sus recomendaciones en las Guías de Práctica Clínica del tratamiento de la insuficiencia cardiaca, basándose en las directrices de la International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.

    Heart transplantation has become in the last 30 years the technique of choice for the treatment of heart failure in advanced stages. It should be done a careful selection of candidates who, in addition to the medical indication, must have social and psychological characteristics to deal with the whole procedure and follow-up. It is very important that patients with optimal treatment, are referred to specialized centers. The main Scientific Societies have published their recommendations in the Guidelines for the treatment of heart failure, based on the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation recommendations.
