This article investigates the invention of the tuba and considers the absence of a creation myth for brass instruments (in contrast to the aulos and lyre), suggesting some reasons for this. This lack may be due to the disappearance of a text that provided such a myth, but it is also possible that negative associations connecting trumpets with war and funerals may have dissuaded poets from creating a divine myth
