Resumen de The Israelization of Ethiopian Immigrants as Welfare Clients

Esther Hertzog

  • This paper shows that the absorption centers, where the immigrants were concentrated, channeled the immigrants to the niche of "needy" welfare clients. The "absorbing" agencies justified their social control in the name of "professional help" for the immigrants integration into Israeli society. Turning the immigrants into a category of needy people took place through "welfare-aides," who related mainly to the female immigrants and to their "mother" identity in particular.
