Resumen de Hombres y mujeres jóvenes ante las creencias de género ¿flexibilidad y/o resistencia?

  En este trabajo analizamos algunas creencias de los jóvenes de diferentes estratos del país respecto a las relaciones de género. Consideramos que el reconocimiento de las creencias y su análisis nos llevan a la identificación de la flexibilidad ante los estereotipos en las relaciones de género, así como la resistencia al cambio en tales relaciones. Hemos utilizado información de la Encuesta Nacional de Juventud de 2005 para comparar distintas poblaciones de jóvenes: del país, de Jalisco y de la zona metropolitana de Guadalajara (ZMG). Encontramos que las poblaciones son heterogéneas, que hay una mayor flexibilidad en las creencias a nivel nacional que en las que se sostienen en la ZMG, donde predominan los estereotipos. La flexibilidad también es predominante entre las mujeres. Existe una proporción elevada de hombres jóvenes que sostienen creencias compatibles con la igualdad de género. Se discuten las implicaciones que las creencias tienen en las relaciones de poder.

  Certain beliefs on gender relations held by young people in different parts of the country are described and analysed in this paper. Recognising these beliefs makes it possible to identify where there is some flexibility in stereotypical gender relations, and where there is resistance to changing them. Data from the National Youth Survey of 2005 are used to compare different populations of young people: at national level, at the level of the State of Jalisco and in the Metropolitan Zone of Guadalajara (MZG). The population groups were found to be heterogeneous, with a greater flexibility of belief at national level than at the Metropolitan level, where beliefs were more stereotyped. It was also found that beliefs among women were more flexible than those held by men. One of the most significant findings was that a large proportion of young men hold beliefs that are compatible with gender relations tending towards equality. The article includes a discussion of the implications of gender beliefs for power relations.
