  • Resumen
    • In Latvia, after the regaining of independence and implementation of market economy principles, a speedy economics development caused an increase in the number of registered cars. The car fleet changed by replacement of Soviet manufactured with ones from the Western countries. Further, there was a significant increase of passenger cars until 2007, when as a result of the global economic crises it started to drop. Then again, it had a slight growth in 2011 generated by an improving economic situation. Most of the companies were focusing only on car and spare part sales, and automotive workshops were not developed in a targeted manner because until the global economic crises they were the source of the largest share of profit for automotive industry companies. Today, the largest profits originate from automotive workshop services. If current trends are maintained, automotive after sales profit ratio against the total profit of the company will be only growing, and workshops and their services will be of an increasing significance. To ensure that automotive industry companies could successfully develop in the future and increase their competitiveness, the authors have researched car repair habits of the Latvian residents, and their major criteria for selection of workshops by conducting a survey in March and April of 2012. The article characterizes the Latvian passenger car fleet, and first time registered cars, and their dynamics. It describes selection of automotive workshops by Latvian car drivers and analyzes and evaluates their criteria.
