The life journey of some social agents of the merchant community of Luanda has allowed us to identify a number of strategies and webs that formed the basis for the construction of new spaces for commercial activities between the interior and the coast of West Central Africa. In the first half of the eighteenth century, in the context of the Atlantic slave trade, I analyze the trajectory of priest João Teixeira de Carvalho, who was born in Benguela, lived in Luanda, spent some years in Rio de Janeiro and returns to the African region to his ecclesiastical position and activity merchant. From a series of records of the time, collection of eighteenth-century documentation from Portuguese, Angolan and Brazilian files, I highlight the eventful life of the African priest in an attempt to further understanding of the interactions of the communities of that coast to the Atlantic world.

O percurso de vida de alguns agentes sociais da comunidade de comerciantes luandense tem permitido identificar uma série de estratégias e teias que serviram de base para construção de novos espaços de atividades mercantis entre o interior e o litoral da África Central Ocidental. Na primeira metade do século XVIII, no contexto do comércio atlântico de escravos, analiso a trajetória do padre João Teixeira de Carvalho, que nasceu em Benguela, viveu em Luanda, passou alguns anos no Rio de Janeiro e retornou à região africana para o seu cargo de eclesiástico e a atividade de comerciante.
A partir de uma série de registros de época, documentação setecentista dos acervos dos arquivos português, angolano e brasileiro, destaco a atribulada vida do padre africano na intenção de um maior entendimento das interações das sociedades daquele litoral ao mundo atlântico.
