    Este artigo trata das experiências da quitandeira Maria Mina entre 1850 e 1883, desde a compra da alforria por meio do seu trabalho no Mercado Público até a disputa com o coronel Feliciano Alves de Brito pelo escravo Manoel. Reduzindo a escala com foco nesses agentes e suas estratégias, encontramos pistas para compreender as transformações nas relações de trabalho das últimas décadas do século XIX e o lugar dos africanos e seus descendentes no processo de (trans)formação daquele mercado de trabalho.

    This article deals with the experiences of the african street vendor Maria Mina in Desterro, from 1850, when she bought her manumission with the savings from her work in the Public Market, up to 1883, when she disputed with a powerful colonel over the freedom of the slave Manoel. By reducing the scale and focusing on the strategies of these agents, we find new ways to approach the changes in work relations during the last decades of the XIX century. We can also further explore the active role played by Africans and their descendants in the trans(formation) of that labor market.
