El sacrificio es encarado, a partir de las investigaciones de René Girard, desde un punto de vista diferente y estimulante, según el cual en las sociedades arcaicas los hombres no eran capaces de reconciliarse sino a costa de un tercero, la víctima propiciatoria, llamada por los antiguos griegos, el phármacos. La idea fundamental es que la víctima sacrificada pone fin a la crisis y da lugar a la polis, evitando que la violencia que amenaza a toda la comunidad se propague inevitablemente. Esto no implica pensar que el hombre arcaico hacía un culto de la violencia sino que veneraba la violencia sacrificial y sagrada porque anhelaba la paz.

Sacrifice will be analyzed on the basis of research by René Girard and from a different and most stimulating perspective. Such perspective suggests that, in ancient societies, men were unable to reconcile unless through a third party: the propitiating victim or, according to the ancient Greeks, the phármacos. The main idea is that the sacrificial victim brings the crisis to an end and gives rise to the polis; thus, it prevents the violence looming over the entire community from getting beyond control. This does not entail that the ancient man made a cult of violence but that he worshipped sacrificial, sacred violence only in an attempt to seek peace, the ultimate goal.
