  • Resumen
    • This paper investigates the semantic properties of a kind of passé surcomposé usually found in independent or main clauses. This double compound is a regional form, occurring principally in the linguistic zones corresponding to the langue doc and franco-provençal regions. It is shown that the function of this double compound is, in fact, to mark an existential perfect (or experiential perfect).

The main properties of the existential perfect are presented and compared with several examples of double compound forms. Similarities and differences between existential passé composé and existential passé surcomposé are analyzed.
