    La conformación de una orquesta local que ostente la representatividad de su lugar de origen no está sujeta únicamente a su mérito artístico. Como toda instancia que apele a una legitimación oficial, su éxito dependerá de factores bastante más amplios, de índole incluso política.

    El presente trabajo es una revisión historiográfica del proceso que llevó a instituir una orquesta representativa para la ciudad de Concepción, Chile, durante las décadas de 1940 y 1950. Éste involucró una carrera de varias orquestas por conseguir la aceptación del público, al mismo tiempo que procuraban insertarse en un circuito oficial que avalara su actividad. Se presenta el problema a la luz de otras determinantes históricas, especialmente de tipo ideológico, que permiten explicar las razones tanto del proceso en sí mismo como de sus resultados, procurando a partir de ello una interpretación proyectable hacia la realidad presente.

    The shaping of a local orchestra that bears the representativeness of his city does not merely depend of its artistical worth. Such as any group that requests a official legitimity, its success is atacched on a wider range of elements, even of a political kind.

    This work is an hisoriographical revision of the process that concludes with the institution of a representative orchestra in the city of Concepción, Chile, during the decades of 1940 and 1950. This process involved the race of diverses orchestras to get the acceptation of the public, at the same tima that they try to insert themselves into an official circuit that bucked up its activity. The problem is showed lighted by another historical causes, specially ideological, that allow to explain both the reasons of the process itself, such as its results, looking through them for an interpretation able to be casted until our present reality.
