Industrias en hueso y asta de los niveles magdalenienses de Santimamiñe (excavaciones 2004-2007)

    Se estudia una cincuentena de utensilios de hueso o asta trabajados, procedentes de la secuencia magdaleniense de Santimamiñe, desde un nivel atribuible al Magdaleniense inferior tardío (Csn) hasta otro del Magdaleniense superior-final (Slnc). A las ocupaciones durante esa última época corresponde la mayor abundancia y diversidad de restos trabajados. La existencia de ocupaciones intermedias es problemática, en la medida en que al menos parte del material del nivel Almp es de carácter intrusivo. Los remontados establecidos y los caracteres técnicos y tipológicos de los materiales óseos más característicos de Almp apuntan a la misma cronología que los de Slnc. Están presentes en la colección las principales categorías tipológicas de época Magdaleniense (azagayas, puntas de hueso alargadas, punzones, alfileres, espátulas y cinceles, arpones y algunos colgantes obre concha, así como fragmentos tecnológicos: matrices, varillas industriales…), con elocuentes variaciones temporales en las bases y secciones preparadas (caso de las azagayas), o en su misma distribución temporal (arpones). La colección facilita finalmente algunas precisiones cronológicas y funcionales sobre varias clases de utensilios, sean las puntas de asta de sección triangular, los arpones de base perforada, o unas puntas de hueso muy alargadas y finas, con base preparada para su enmangue, destinadas probablemente a la caza de aves, pequeños mamíferos o a la pesca en suelos blandos.

    Some fifty bone and antler implements are studied, obtained in the Magdalenian sequence at Santimamiñe, ranging from a level attributed to the late lower Magdalenian (Csn) to a late-final Magdalenian level (Slnc). The most abundant and diverse artefacts correspond to occupations in the latter period. The existence of intermediate occupations is debatable, as at least part of the material in the Almp level is intrusive. The re-fits that have been determined and the technological and typological nature of the most characteristic bone objects in the Almp level suggest that they are of the same age as the Slnc level. The main typological categories of the Magdalenian period are present in the collection (assegai points, elongated bone points, punches, pins, spatulas, chisels, harpoons, and pendants made from shells, as well as some technological fragments: matrices, industrial rods, and so on). Eloquent chronological variations are seen in the shape of the bases and cross-sections of the assegai points, and in the distribution through time of the harpoons. Finally, the collection allows some chronological and functional conclusions to be reached about several kinds of artefacts, such as antler points with triangular cross-section, harpoons with perforated base, and the elongated, thin bone points, with a base shaped to be hafted, probably used for hunting birds and small mammals or for fishing in soft substrates.

    Hezurrezko edo adarrezko landutako berrogeita hamar tresna inguru aztertzen dira, Santimamiñeko Magdalen aldiko sekuentziatik jasoak, Beranduko behe-Magdalen aldikoa (Csn) izan daitekeen mailatik Amaierako goiMagdalen aldikoa (Slnc) izan daitekeen beste maila batera bitartean. Azken garai horretako okupazioetakoak dira landutako hondakin gehienak eta ugarienak. Tarteko okupazioen existentziak arazo bat baino gehiago eragiten du, izan ere, Almp mailako materialaren zati batek, behintzat, izaera intrusiboa baitu. Ezarritako erremontatuek eta Almp-ko hezurrezko material esanguratsuenen ezaugarri teknikoek eta tipologikoek Slnc-koen kronologia berberera eramaten gaituzte. Bilduma horretan agertzen zaizkigu Magdalen aldiko ezaugarri tipologiko nagusiak (azagaiak, hezur punta luzexkak, puntzoiak, orratzak, espatulak eta zintzelak, arpoian eta maskorrean egindako zenbait zintzilikari eta baita zatiki teknologikoak ere: matrizeak, industriako barillak…). Denboraren aldetik alde nabarmenak daude prestatutako oinarrietan eta sekzioetan (azagaiekin gertatzen den moduan) edo denboraren araberako banaketan bertan (arpoiak). Azkenik, bildumak, hainbat tresna motari buruzko zenbait zehaztapen kronologiko eta funtzional ematen ditu, besteak beste, sekzio triangeluarreko adar puntak, oinarri zulatua duten arpoiak edo hezur punta oso luze eta finak, kirtenean sartzeko prestatuta dagoen oinarriarekin, ziurrenez hegaztiak, ugaztun txikiak ehizatzera edo lur bigunetan arrantza egitera.
