    Este artículo analiza el material gráfico que el Taller de Bry hizo sobre los esclavos negroafricanos para el Libro V de los Viajes a las Indias Occidentales (Francfort del Meno, 1595). Trata sobre la introducción de los esclavos negroafricanos en el Caribe español durante el siglo XVI. También describe las duras condiciones que padecían en las minas de Cibao y en las plantaciones de azúcar, en la actual República Dominicana. Finalmente, representa el cruel trato hacia los esclavos y las primeras fugas, durante la Navidad de 1522.

    This article analyses the graphic material about the black Africans slaves that Bry´s Workshop used for the Book V of the Travels to the West Indies (Francfort del Meno, 1595). It is about the introduction of black Africans slaves in the Spanish Caribbean during the first half of XVI century. Here it also describes the deplorable working conditions that were endured by the slaves in the mines of Cibao (Isla de la Española), in the sugar cane plantations, in what is known as the Domican Republic. Finally it studies the cruel treatment and suffering of the slaves which led primarily to the first black fugitives, during Christmas of 1522.
