    La mayoría de los diputados del Congreso Constituyente de 1835-1836 apoyaron la centralización y monopolio en manos del gobierno nacional del uso legítimo de la fuerza militar, con exclusión en su mando y organización de cualquier otra institución local y regional. Ahora sabemos que el proyecto de desarmar a las regiones fue un fracaso. Conocer las causas de este revés es el principal objetivo de este artículo, tomando como materia de estudio al departamento de Guanajuato. Asimismo, se destaca que para entender la historia de las fuerzas mili- tares de Guanajuato y del fallo del proceso de centralización castrense es necesario relacionar directamente el tema militar con otros aspectos de la estructura societal de Guanajuato, en particular su sistema político.

    Most of the delegates in the Constituent Congress of 1835-1836 supported the government's centralization and monopoly of the legitimate use of military force, with the exclusion of any other local or regional institution from its command and organization. We now know that the project to disarm the regions failed. Determining the causes of this failure is the main purpose of this article, which focuses on the department of Guanajuato. This article highlights the fact that in order to understand the history of the military forces of Guanajuato and the failure of the process of military centralization, the military issue must be directly linked to other aspects of the societal structure of Guanajuato, particularly its political system.
