    An ancient synthesis product is the most important find from the settlement of Brill near the coast of the North Sea. Outside of the ancient high cultures, the pigment known as Egyptian Blue is only known from an unspecified Norwegian findsport and from the central German princely burial from Gommern. All three find complexes are dated in the first half or in the middle of the 3rd century A.D. The extent to which the Brill pigment-find must be seen in the context of the imperial display shields of the western "barbaricum" is discussed. The co-occurrence of Egyptian Blue, evidence for iron smelting and use of basalt mills at the site suggests that the owner of Longhouse 9 at Brill was a local ruler or noble.

    La principale découverte de l'habitat de Brill situé à proximité des côtes de la mer du Nord est un produit de synthèse antique. En dehors des grandes cultures antiques, le pigment désigné sous le nom de bleu égyptien n'est connu que par une découverte norvégienne et par une découverte d'Allemagne centrale provenant de la tombe princière de Gommern. Les trois sites datent de la première moitié ou plutôt du milieu du IIIe siècle de notre ère. Dans quelle mesure la découverte de Brill put-elle être mise en relation avec la répartition des boucliers de prestige de la période impériale du barbaricum occidental? L'apparition du bleu égyptien lié aux indices de métallurgie du fer et à l'utilisation de meules en basalte semblent désigner le propiétaire de la maison 9 de Brill comme un personnage puissant ou un chef local.

    Ein antikes Syntheseprodukt stellt den bedeutendsten Fund des Siedlungsplatzes Brill nahe der nördlichen Nordseeküste dar. Außerhalb der antiken Hochkulturen ist das als Ägyptisch Blau bekannte Pigment ansonsten nur noch von einem ungenannten norwegischen Fundort und aus dem mitteldeutschen Fürstengrab von Gommern bekannt. Alle drei Fundkomplexe datieren in die erste Hälfte bzw. in die Mitte des 3.Jahrhunderts n.Chr. Es wird diskutiert, inwieweit der Briller Pigmentfund vor dem Hintergrund der kaiserzeitlichen Prachtschilde im westlichen Barbaricum gesehen werden muß. Das lokale Zusammentreffen von Ägyptisch Blau mit Hinweisen auf die Verhüttung von Eisen und den Gebrauch von Basaltmühlen scheint den Eigentümer des Langhauses 9 von Brill als lokalen Machthaber oder Häuptling auszuweisen.
