  At two cemeteries of the late 10th to 12th / early 13th century in Usedom (Ostvorpommern District), several graves containing boat-shaped coffins were discovered. These always had a blunt stern and a pointed bow, were up to 3,00 m in length and were, in part, constructed using iron nails. The burials were either poorly furnished or completely lacking in grave goods. A description of the evidence and an account of parallels in Scandinavia and northern Poland is discussed in connection with the functional interpretation of these finds as sledges, boat-parts or complete boats. At least in part, these appear to have been complete small boats - widened logboats and clinker-built plank boats - offered for religious reasons. Scandinavian influence can, with high probability, be assumed in this mortuary ritual.

  Deux nécropoles datées de la fin du Xème au XIIème / début XIIIème siècles après J.-C. découvertes à Usedom (Kr. Ostvorpommern) ont livré plusieurs tombes à l'intérieur desquelles se trouvait un cercueil en forme de barque. Ces contenants funéraires avaient toujours une partie arrière tronquée, une partie avant pointue, une longueur pouvant atteindre 3 mètres, et ils étaient en partie assemblés avec des clous en fer. Le mobilier associé était soit peu important, soir totalement absent. La description de ces découvertes et la présentation de parallèles de Scandinavie et de Pologne septentrionale sont accompagnées d'une discussion sur l'interprétation fonctionnelle de ces objets comme traîneau, partie de bateau our bateau à part entière. Au moins pour une partie d'entre eus, il devrait bien s'agir de petits bateaux complets - troncs d'arbre élargis et bateaux en planches assemblées - dont l'offrande pourrait être liée à des comportements religieux. L'influence scandinave dans ces pratiques funéraires est plus que probable.

  Auf zwei Grabërfeldern des späten 10. bis 12. / frühen 13. Jahrhunderts in Usedom (Kr. Ost-vorpommern) wurden mehrer Gräber entdeckt, in denen sich bootsförmige Totenbehältnisse befanden. Diese hatten sets ein stumpfes Heck und einen spitzen Bug, wiesen eine Länge von bis zu 3,00m auf und waren z.T. unter Verwendung von Eisennägeln konstruiert worden. Die Gräber waren ärmlich ausgestattet oder beigabenlos. An eine Beschreibung dieser eine Diskussion der funktionales Interpretation dieser Befunde als Schlitten, Bootsteile oder vollständige Boote an. Zumindest teilweise dürfte es sich um komplette kleine Boote - er-weiterte Einbäume und geklinkerte Plankenboote - gehandelt haben, deren Beigabe aus religiösen Beweggründen erfolgte. Mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit ist skandinavischer Einfluß bei dieser Bestattungssitte anzunehmen.
