  • Resumen
    • Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) are a part of the new technologies that are able to improve the access as well as the storage of drug information sources. In this present work, some technical generalities are reviewed as well as the usefulness of these devices for information about drugs by means of the different applications and the references published on the Internet. A search took place both in MEDLINE (1999-2003) and in the web pages that describe the utilities of PDAs. 49 useful applications were obtained from the following types: general drug catalogs with complete pharmacological files (indications, dosage, side effects, interactions, toxicology, pregnancy, lactation, geriatric patients and others...), specialized drug catalogs (infectious diseases, psychiatry, geriatrics and others...), diagnosis guides, phytotherapy, toxicology, calculation of medical parameters and drug administration. For every reference, it is shown the content description, the memory requirements, the cost and the web page for downloading. Also, other utilities described in the bibliography are reviewed, such as the edition and the update ofpharmacotherapeutic guides. It is concluded that PDA present a wide spectrum of applications oriented towards the information about drugs by offering multiple possibilities for the end user
