This paper focuses on the Worwegian Music Heritage project established in Norway in 2008. The aim of this project is to conserve and publish important parts of Norwegian classical music heritage. Wich mainly covers the period of the nineteenth and twentieth century. The National Library willcoordinate the project from a conservation point of view, whereas the University of Oslo will coordinate the national research effort. Cooperation between these and other music institutions in Norway is being established. Scholarships are founded to do research of the music heritage. Eiting and publishing Norwegian music will be done, some which are not printed before and some which are in need of revision. Ole Bull, Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen are mentioned as representatives of the Norwegian nation building which took place in the nineteenth century. Some Norwegian-Russian musical connections are also mentioned. A short survey is given about how the Norwegian composers had to go abroad to succeed. Likewise, several music jpublishing houses with importance for the Norwegian composers are mentioned. The National Library has now started to digitize their collection of music manuscripts, as wull music prints when that part of the scanning jproject happens.
