Objectives: To evaluate the impact on prescriptions of an agreement between the Health Services from an Autonomous Community and an Assisted Residence, which implies a direct medication supply from a Hospital Pharmacy Department. Method: Creation of a work team. Revision of medication stock and collection of consumption data. Creation of the Residence's Pharmacotherapeutic Catalog adapted to the Hospital's Guidebook and Exchange Program. Establishment of acquisition procedures. Results: The catalog went from 411 to 282 pharmaceutical specialties. In the first three months, the expenses on account of the Hospital were 24,358. The estimated expenses for the Health Services based on prescriptions would have been 45,179 (considering the retail price per unit). We estimated an annual expense reduction of 83,284 (approximate savings of 46%). Conclusions: This agreement produced a pharmaceutical expenditure reduction for the Health Services by contributing to rationalize medication use
