  • Resumen
    • We described 6 patients diagnosed with visceral leishmaniasis by the Infectious Diseases Unit from San Juan Hospital in Alicante, and reviewed anti-leishmanicidal treatments. We highlighted miltefosine as a powerful drug that produces a greater therapeutic adherence by being orally administered at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg of the patient's weight. It also shows a better tolerance versus the most toxic pentavalent antimonials, of required parenteral use, or versus Amphotericin B, both in the usual and liposomal fashion, which is more expensive, requires a hospital admission and is nephrotoxic
