Objective: To evaluate whether the use of analoguess (GnRH-a) are an effective alternative for protecting the ovarian function from damage caused by chemotherapy. Method: We conducted a bibliographic search of various studies about the use of GnRH-a to preserve the ovarian function after chemotherapy published until July 2010. Results: We included thirteen controlled studies. Ten included patients with oncohematologic diseases and the remaining three included patients with autoimmune diseases. For those women treated with GnRH-a, the ovarian function was preserved between 50 and 100%. In the control group, it was lower than 50% in 10 of the 13 studies (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Therapy with GnRH-a increases ovarian preservation in chemotherapy treated women. Despite the need for more studies that establish its place in therapeutics, this could be regarded as a good option for young women that want to keep their fertility after chemotherapy
