Estado punitivo e pós-modernidade: um estudo metateórico da contemporaneidade

    Este texto apresenta uma meta-análise sobre o avanço do �Estado punitivo� na contemporaneidade. Em outras palavras, versa sobre a proeminência do controle em detrimento da proteção social e das políticas dos direitos sociais. O tema central é o investimento crescente no combate ao crime pelas democracias contemporâneas, o que contribui para consolidar a figura do �Estado punitivo�. Inserido nas recentes reflexões sociológicas de Loïc Wacquant, David Garland, Nils Christie e Zygmunt Bauman, entre outros, esse tema é ainda pouco discutido pela comunidade acadêmica. O atual arranjo capitalista generaliza-se quase que instantaneamente em todo o globo, atrelando o sucesso dos empreendimentos econômicos à nova face da política criminal. O presente artigo, portanto, tem como objetivo oferecer um enfoque alternativo às reflexões sobre o controle social, abordando o que se convencionou chamar de �Estado punitivo�, figura política que se ajusta às transformações econômicas, sociais e culturais já em curso nos últimos trinta anos e que, segundo alguns teóricos contemporâneos, inauguram a pós-modernidade.

    This text focuses on the advance of the �punitive state� in contemporary societies, or in other words, the prominence of control rather than social protection and social rights policies. Its central topic is the increasing investment in fighting crime by contemporary democracies, which helps to consolidate the figure of the �punitive state�. The recent sociological reflections of Loïc Wacquant, David Garland, Nils Christie and Zygmunt Bauman, among others, will be used to explore this topic, which is still little discussed by the academic community. The current capitalist arrangement has almost instantaneously spread around the globe, tying the success of economic enterprises to the new face of crime policy. The paper therefore aims to offer an alternative approach to thinking about social control by addressing the so-called �punitive state�, a policy that suits the economic, social and cultural changes under way in the last thirty years and that, according to some contemporary theorists, inaugurated postmodernity.
