  If one grants the animals on the relief the meaning assigned them in Gallo-Roman cults as typical attributes of deities, then the composition as a whole acquires a significance that makes likely a consecration at the Brigach spring. Diana Abnoba, among other things protectress of springs, appears with her hares at the centre of the image, flanked by a mother- and fertility-goddess with dove on the right and the stag-god Cernunnos on the left. Only the deities'heads are depicted, their bodies are replaced by pedestals. The figures on either side gaze toward Diana Abnoba in the middle.

  Iconographically the work of a local craftsman, realized with Roman pictorial elements, this was created, at the earliest, in the second half on the 1st century A.D.

  Si l'on accorde aux animaux de la représentation figurée la signification qui est la leur dans les cualtes gallo-romains, c'est-à-dire celle d'attributs de divinités, la composition générale prend alors sens, constituant probablement une dédicace à la source du Brigach. Diana Abnoba, entre autre, protectrice des sources, est représentée au centre de l'image avec son liévre, franquée à droite d'une déesse-mère / déesse de la fécondité avec d'une colombe et, à gauche, du dieu-cerf Cernunnos. Toutes les divinités sont représentées para leur tête, leur corps étant remplacé par un socle. Les deux personnages latéraux regerdent en direction de Diana Abnoba au centre. D'un point de veu iconographique, il s'agit de l'oeuvre d'un indigène réalisée à partir d'éléments figuratifs romains, au plus tôt pendant la seconde moitié du Ier siècle de notre ére.

  Billigt man den Tieren auf dem Bildstein die ihnen in gallo-römischen Kulten zukommende Bedeutung als kennzeichnende Attribute von Gotttheiten zu, dann gewinnt die Gesamtkomposition einen Sinn, der eine Weihung an der Brigachquelle wahrscheinlich macht. Diana Abnoba, u.a. Beschützerin der Quellen, steht mit ihrem Hasen in der Bildmitte, flankiert von einer Mutter- und Fruchtbarkeitsgöttin mit Taube rechts sowie dem Hirschgott Cernunnos links. Die drei Götter sind durch Köpfe dargestellt, ihre Körper durch Postamente ersetzt. Die zwei seitlichen blicken auf Diana Abnoba in ihrer Mitte. Ikonographisch das Werk eines Einheimischen, realisert mit römischen Bildelementen, geschaffen frühestens ab der zweiten Hälfte des 1. Jahrhunderts n. Chr.
