Readability reports on the possibility that a text is understood by a subject and it is one of the factors that may affect the ability in making decisions about their health (health literacy). In this work we review the main formulas for measuring the readability of written materials in English and in Spanish. The variables used in readability formulas constitute an aspect of the information quality and they suggest the need for new quality control measures (content, organization, coherence, and design), to ensure that the development of written materials were more useful for most individuals who are targeted
