  • Resumen
    • Objective: To Analyze the main studies on safety and efficacy in the administration of inhaled antibiotics with non authorized indication in spite of the increasing use. Results: A total of 16 published studies were selected (nine clinical trials, six clinical cases or series of cases and one comparative study). The greatest evidence was focused on the administration of gentamicin in patients with VAP, chronic infection by Pseudomonas sp. and bronchiectasis. The studies found using aerosolized amikacin also showed significant good outcomes in eradicating different species, especially Pseudomonas sp. Conclusions: There is few data on safety and efficacy about inhaled antibiotics empirically administered. Well designed works with higher methodological quality are necessary to establish which are safe and effective against conventional therapy in the treatment of patients with chronic and resistant respiratory infections
