  • Resumen
    • The word "ornamentation", used during the period considered in this article, means the improvement of the appearance of town centres through the planting of trees, the grading and fencing of commons, the establishment of promenades, and new concepts for the design of cemeteries. To some the word had a ring of superfluity, but to others the time had come to enrich the landscape in a way that would make it pleasing to the eye.
