  • Resumen
    • This a welcome addition to the ranks of coffee-table books on gardens in England, largely because it is one of the relatively few volumes that is actually devoted to garden history. Most such books concern themselves with modem gardens or with gardening techniques. Dr Thacker is the former Gardens Inspector for English Heritage, and the over one hundred gardens selected for inclusion in this book are virtually all gardens that have been given a Grade One listing by that organization. Grade One is defined as "parks and gardens which by reason of their historic layout, features and ornaments considered together make them of exceptional interest".
