In the summer of 1791, Baron J. F. W. van Spaen van Biljoen (1746-1827), of Guelderland, made a journey to London and southern England in the company of his stepfather-in-law, Baron W. C. H. van Lynden van Blitterswijk (1736-1816). Although relations between the United Provinces and England were rather strained during the last decades of the 18th century, there was, generally speaking, no strong anti-English feeling.
