    El espacio en que transcurre la vida familiar ha sido objeto de intensas transformaciones a lo largo del último siglo. Se ha dicho que probablemente sea en sus condiciones materiales donde resida la influencia más visible, extendida y potencialmente homogeneizadora de la vida familiar en el siglo XX. Dentro de este espacio, la cocina ha sido pretexto para hablar del y hablarle al ama de casa: en la Argentina, a partir de mediados del siglo XX, es posible observar la emergencia de un nuevo modelo de ama de casa y de domesticidad prescripto en los discursos sobre este ambiente, aunque no sólo en ellos. En este artículo se exploran las distancias y las tensiones entre dicho modelo y los relatos de experiencias de distintas mujeres que narran su historia de vida, cuyo marco temporal coincide con el de la vigencia de dicho modelo.

    The place where family life takes place has undergone significant changes over the last century. It has been said that the most apparent, widespread and potentially homogenising influences in the twentieth century family life were in the material conditions of the home. Inside the home, the kitchen has been a pretext for talking to and talking about the housewife in Argentina, the emergence of new models of housewives and domesticity considered in the discourses about this room, although not only there has been apparent since the mid-twentieth century. This article explores the tensions and distances between those models and the experiences related by various women who narrate their life story-which coincides in time with the life of the models.
