  • Resumen
    • The recent splendid edition of the Designs for Arbours (1755) and Designs for Grottos (1758) by Thomas Wright of Durham has focused attention again upon this prolific if eccentric landscape architect, who was patronized by so many landed families in the mid-18th century that he was considered by some to be the worthy successor to William Kent in the design of gardens and garden buildings. The surviving manuscripts and drawings of Wright have been considered in detail by Dr Eileen Harris in her account of his life and works which prefaces this new edition.
