By analysing the correspondence between Rodolfo Pallucchini and Willem Sandberg, on the occasion the common planning for Venice Biennale, from 1948 to 1956, the essay defines the terms of this imoprtant professional relationship. Despite the similar assumptions to the role of the Venetian public institution, pallucchini and Sandberg hel different view on the relations the a contemporary work of art established with the past or its social function in the exhibitions.
