  • Resumen
    • The southern slope of the Sierra Almijara (Málaga province) is an area of great ecological value which has recently been protected as a Natural Park. Its predominant lithology is of carbonate materials (marbles belonging to the Alpujarride Complex, Internal Zones of the Betic Cordillera), which made up an aquifer of regional importance. The aquifer system takes up the headwater area of a coastal stretch of high potential demand although currently underexploited. A significant proportion of its water resources supplies a number of small but permanent streams, all of which are ecologically valuable and can be considered as a feature of the landscape that is worth to preserve. The aim of this study is to evaluate the water resources of the area as well as to analyse management strategies for them in accordance with the ecological importance of the protected site, taking into account the hydrogeological information obtained
