    Conociendo la importancia del estudio de las guerras civiles en Colombia, que se constituyen en otra manera de ver las complejas relaciones entre política, guerra, sociedad y Estado, el presente ensayo analiza las viejas y nuevas interpretaciones sobre las guerras civiles en la Colombia decimonónica, las cuales impusieron una visión limitada tanto del mismo conflicto, como de su relación con la conformación del Estado-nación colombiano. En este sentido, se proponen nuevos tópicos, interpretaciones, enfoques, fuentes y se realza el papel de algunos sectores sociales en la contienda.

    Knowing the importance of the study of civil wars in Colombia, which are other ways to interpret the complex relations between politics, war, society and State, this essay analyzes the old and new interpretations of the civil wars in the nineteenth-century in Colombia, which imposed a restricted view of both, the conflict and its relation with the Colombian nation-state composition. In this sense, we propose new topics, interpretations, approaches, sources and we emphasize the role of some social sectors in the struggle.
