Crenças de alunos de ensino superior sobre ciências e matemática

    In a changing world, facing discoveries and inventions that change our lives and our responsibilities as citizens, it is necessary to consider pedagogical alternative, to discuss them in a critical perspective. This paper present the results of a survey accomplished with students of undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics and science, through an agreement questionnaire based on a Likert scale. The survey instrument, that consisted of statements in which respondents reported their level of agreement, was adapted from one already used in several investigations with students of exact sciences. The research sought answers to the following questions: what are the beliefs of mathematics, physics and chemistry students in relation to science and mathematics? Which of the search results can be used to extend, in the classroom, discussions on current issues involving critical knowledge of science and mathematics? The investigation sought to know the beliefs from the three types of interests theorized by Habermas: technical, pragmatic and emancipatory. The quantitative analysis of responses, with the aid of SPSS software, showed that these students have predominantly technical and pragmatic interests and still have difficulties in accepting critical views on science and cling to objectivist principles.

    Em um mundo em constante mudança, em face de descobertas e invenções que modificam nossa vida e nossas responsabilidades como cidadãos, é necessário pensar em alternativas pedagógicas, para discuti-las em uma perspectiva crítica. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa de opinião realizada com alunos de cursos de graduação e pós-graduação em Matemática e Ciências, por meio de um questionário de concordância baseado numa escala Likert. O instrumento de pesquisa, composto por afirmações em que o respondente informa seu nível de concordância, foi adaptado de outro já empregado em várias investigações com alunos de ciências exatas. A pesquisa buscou respostas aos seguintes objetivos: quais são as crenças de alunos de Matemática, Física e Química em relação às Ciências e à Matemática? Quais resultados da pesquisa podem ser aproveitados para aprofundar, em sala de aula, discussões sobre temas atuais que envolvem conhecimentos críticos de Ciências e Matemática? A investigação buscou conhecer crenças a partir dos três tipos de interesses teorizados por Habermas: técnico, pragmático e emancipatório. A análise quantitativa das respostas, com auxílio do software SPSS, revelou que os alunos participantes têm interesses predominantemente técnicos e pragmáticos e ainda têm dificuldades em aceitar visões críticas sobre as ciências, apegando-se a "princípios objetivistas".
