    El objetivo de este artículo es analizar la actuación del gobierno centrista que nació con la finalidad de gestionar las elecciones de febrero del 36. ¿Qué mecanismos institucionales puso en marcha para intentar controlar los comicios? ¿Cuáles eran los fines que perseguía este proyecto? Para entender el proceso de construcción electoral que se desarrolló desde el gobierno resulta fundamental partir de la perspectiva de su presidente, Manuel Portela Val ladares, su gran impulsor.

    The aim of this article is to analyse the performance of the centrist government that was created in order to oversee the February 1936 general election. Which institutional mechanisms were set up in order to try and control the election? What were the objectives that this centrist project pursued? To understand the government's management of the electoral process it is essential to understand the thinking of the Prime Minister, Manuel Portela Valladares, the chief architect of the 1936 general election.
