208 años después de la creación del Museo del Ejército y un año después de su inauguración en el Alcázar de Toledo, este artículo se propone resumir su historia, destacando algunos hitos y algunas constantes presentes en su ya larga vida, como la concentración y dispersión sucesivas de fondos, o la revisión y reelaboración de inventarios y catálogos, actualmente con su imprescindible vertiente informática, así como reflejar su realidad actual y el proceso que la ha hecho posible, y finalmente plantear algunas de sus posibilidades de futuro. Ahora el museo tiene la oportunidad histórica de definirse a sí mismo dentro de los fines institucionales establecidos en su Decreto de creación.

208 years after the creation of the Army Museum and a year after its opening in the Alcazar of Toledo, this article aims to summarize its history, highlighting some milestones and some constants present in his long life, such as concentration and successive dispersion of its collections, or the revision and reelaboration of inventories and catalogs, now with their essential computer side, and reflect the current reality and the process made it possible, and finally raise some of their future possibilities. Now the museum has a historic opportunity to define itself within the corporate goals established in its Decree of creation.
