Desde principios del siglo XX, las vidas y los linajes de Ruy Díaz de Mendoza y Catalina de Salazar, cuyos descendientes son numerosos en México y Estados Unidos, han sido tergiversados y enterrados. Esta ponencia, basada en nuevas investigaciones realizadas en más de una docena de archivos diferentes de España y México, presenta información hasta ahora desconocida sobre los antepasados de éstos, incluyendo conexiones con otros personajes; analiza detalladamente y, con la ayuda de nuevas evidencias, refuta la acusación de bigamia contra ella; y aporta nuevas perspectivas sobre sus vidas y las de sus antepasados, al buscar documentos originales que les conciernen claramente en la época en la que vivieron y murieron
Since the early twentieth century, the lives and lineages of Ruy Díaz de Mendoza and Catalina de Salazar, whose descendants are numerous in Mexico and the United States, have been misrepresented and forgotten. This paper focuses on new research carried out in more than a dozen different archives both in Spain and Mexico, and presents new information about their descendants, including connections to other personages; it analyses in depth and, with the help of new evidence, refutes the bigamy accusation against her; and it offers new perspectives on their lives, their ancestors’, and the period when they lived and died
