Resumen de The Politics of Wartime Demolition and Human Landscape Transformation
The establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 resulted in the reshaping of human landscapes of the newly acquired national territory. Former Palestinian Arab urban and rural areas were either repopulated by Jews or demolished and later redeveloped by Israeli authorities. The old quarter of Tiberias and Manshiya were former urban Arab quarters earmarked for demolition and modern redevelopment by Israeli authorities. Different Jewish population groups resisted demolition, demanding their preservation. Both spatial conflicts depict several aspects of the debate on the future of former Arab urban areas, which took place in Israel during and after the 1948 war.
