This article presents our experiences of using anachronistic intervention: a performative approach to engaging real-world participants in the design of interactive system. We make use of anachronism as an interventional strategy to disrupt participant perceptions and perturb creative processes in order to encourage alternative thinking and new perspectives on systems design. Observations made during a number of interventions are discussed and some generally applicable lessons are drawn from them.
