Resumen de Del "cafre" al "negro inteligente y orgulloso": el negro en la Trilogía sucia de La Habana de Pedro Juan Gutiérrez
In the works of Cuban writer Pedro Juan Gutiérrez, the shadow of the slave still looms over black people in today's society. The old prejudices are still rampant and alive, and are even revived by contingencies. Even if time has passed since the days of slavery, black people today still have to find ways and means for their survival, not unlike in former times, which make them an example for others. Responding instantly in self-defence is still the rule, which ruins the fragile dignity recently acquired. If we are to believe the short stories collected in this work, few black people manage to overcome the obstacles piled up by current circumstances. Over-emphasis gives prominence to a few specific and yet very real issues, without resorting to an openly ideological tone. In this sense, one might even risk the phrase �the catharsis of speech� to define Gutierrez's short stories.
