  • This article offers an analysis of El culto graduado, a short novel by Alonso de Castillo Solórzano from his collection Tardes entretenidas (1625). A commonplace of the satire against culteranismo was the parody of its style, as shown in mocking poems composed by Lope de Vega, Quevedo, and Castillo Solórzano. However, the latter is the first and only writer who focused his critique on the culto as a character within a complete narrative text. The protagonist of El culto graduado is a new Quijote: the author, Castillo Solórzano, uses some elements of the Cervantine character to criticize poetry composed in the culto style instead of books of chivalry.
