  • Resumen
    • In this paper, we analyse the trajectory of leísmo in Latin America. In Spain, the dialectal distribution, as well as the history of leísmo have been studied in depth, whereas the diachrony of leísmo in America is less known and there are barely any works on the subject. Through a systematic analysis of Spanish texts from the twelfth to the eighteenth centuries and Latin American texts, specifically Mexican and Peruvian texts from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries, we have followed the path of this phenomenon in Latin America from its beginnings to its (almost total) disappearance in Latin American Standard Spanish. We also take into consideration the academic norm and its influence in the American speech, as well as the social reasons that could have contributed to its demise.
