Resumen de La villa miseria como laberinto mágico: el caso La villa de César Aira (2001)

La villa nos muestra el barrio de chabolas de Bajo Flores, Buenos Aires, desde el punto de vista de un joven de clase media. Mientras que las primeras visiones del barrio son realistas, pronto la narración se desliza y proyecta un mundo nuevo y sorprendente. Juega con las percepciones y los imaginarios estereotipados de la villa. Añade una dimensión fantástica y recurre a las figuraciones espaciales del laberinto mágico para construir un imaginario innovador y positivo sobre el espacio. En este artículo proponemos desentrañar esta figuración del laberinto, con una larga tradición en las letras argentinas. Nuestro análisis se centrará alrededor de dos preguntas claves: ¿cómo la narración entreteje el laberinto con el espacio de la villa? y ¿qué imaginario de la villa se articula en esta figura literaria?

In La villa, César Aira presents the slums of Bajo Flores, Buenos Aires, from the view-point of a middle-class teenager. Starting from a representation of Bajo Flores that seems realistic and recognizable to the reader, the novel quickly projects a fantastic and surprising image onto the suburb. Playing with the perceptions and stereotypical images of the slum, the novel accords a fantastic dimension and the spatial image of the magic labyrinth to Bajo Flores, so creating an innovative and positive imaginary of the slum. In this article we propose to analyse this literary image of the labyrinth, a concept that has long history in Argentine literature. Our analysis will focus on two key questions: How does the narration entwine the labyrinth with the space of the slum? And what image of the slum is portrayed by this literary device?
